An emerging consensus among scientists who study autoimmune disease is that a number of autoimmune diseases, including Multiple Sclerosis, have an environmental trigger that originates from a leaky gut thereby allowing microbe and food antigens continual access to the immune system1-3.
Influence of Diet on Disability in Four Multiple Sclerosis Patients
The graph above is considered "anecdotal data" in science, because it is still just from a small trial going on in Scotland. However, the blue vertical line indicates the point at which the subjects began the diet, and each of the patients had notable results. If you have M.S. or other autoimmune issues, this is a dietary program you can start on immediately that may reduce and potentially ameliorate symptoms of the disease. After following the program, we would be very interested in hearing a report on how it works for you.
In this program you will get a complete overview of the evolution of the human diet, and how certain modern foods may contribute to the growing incidence of M.S. and other autoimmune diseases in relation to this thesis. In particular, you’ll learn about the scientific evidence implicating dairy, beans, peanuts, whole grains, and even eggs and tomatoes in the origin and progression of this disease, and how you can adjust your own diet in response.
DVD PRESENTATION to the M.S. Society
The program includes a DVD of a presentation Dr. Cordain gave to the M.S. Society in
Boulder, Colorado.
Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system destroys the myeline sheaths which cover and protect the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. In the presentation, he explains how immune cells called T cells become sensitized to certain foreign proteins that structurally resemble myelin, and the critical role of diet in the process. You’ll learn which foods to avoid and why, and see some anecdotal data showing the positive results from for M.S. patients who have been following the program for a number of years.
Here is a short preview of the DVD Presentation:
Reports continue to come in with successful stories from people who have implemented this program:
"My husband says it was darkest time in our marriage since the diagnosis in June 2007"
"Let me tell you what a difference 6 months makes! I have now lost 24 lbs since starting the Paleo Diet the day after the meeting. I have lost the brainfog, I have so much more energy, I love what I eat, my attitude is better, I am not depressed, I have such confidence in my mobility and ability to live my life the way I want to these days. I actually climbed 8 flights of stairs yesterday! My husband says we have a new lease on our marriage and our life. *Note - Regarding traditional medicines that were prescribed to me, I did not start the Rebif that was suggested to me by my doctor last September, 2008, and when I told him that I was considering the diet as a realistic approach, he said :it should be an accompaniment to your medical treatment and meds – not an alternative” The best part is that I feel better since starting the Paleo Diet than I ever did since the treatments prescribed."
"The bonus is that I have a friend who was diagnosed in January 2009- after hearing me talk about the changes that I have had (she knew me before and after the seminar) she started it too – and feels FANTASTIC. Her doctor, when told about the diet and how good I felt told her “that is hogwash and your friend is crazy!” Seeing is believing and she has found a new doctor. My friend told me I inspired her – what a gift to be given. "

"My brainfog has almost completely dissipated and my strength is re-emerging..."
"I have multiple sclerosis. I passed on my story to Dr. Cordain several months ago and had been progressively seeing grand results. What occurred this fall ... was horrifying. My positive progress not only came to a standstill but I literally started to regress. I fell more and had severe brain fog. Numbness returned to my hands and feet. Fatigue destroyed me. Why?
I began to investigate and discovered the vitamins I was swallowing had soy listed in their ingredients and I was consuming a fair amount of rice and quinoa. I threw the vitamins away and removed all grains, even non glutenous grains from my diet. I re-read ... and saw I had forgotten quite a bit ... Yes, I had really backpedaled. But I am happy to report that only weeks later, my brainfog has almost completely dissipated and my strength is re-emerging ... If my story and what I relay now can benefit other MS sufferers, please use it. I thank you. Having a progressive disease is a nightmare. I hope Dr. Cordain's studies can soon help other sufferers around the globe..."

"Despite a grim diagnosis ...here I am an above average 21 year old ... playing basketball..."
"... I was diagnosed in August 2003, 8 months & 3 severe MS episodes later. I was 16 at the time, 15 when symptoms first appeared. Post diagnosis I was told by the medical team to be aware of info. claiming to aid MS , especially dietary. So I was a good, quiet patient & went onto Rebif, subcutaneously (Rebif is an interferon, to aid in reducing MS relapes). I felt awful on these injections & was in the middle of school exams. I then decided it was time to research other therapies to aid MS. Several months later, after lots of research I told my medical team I was coming off the Rebif. They were unsupportive & told me how shortsighted my decision was. However I was commited to feeling better, noy just staying clear of MS relapses. ... I haven't touched a medication(any) since 2004, the combination of these ...therapies (as well as a certain optimistic mindset) have served me well. Despite a grim diagnosis & prognosis, here I am as an above average 21 year old. I study a tough University degree(nutrition!!), I play college basketball & am virtually symptom free (I have a slight balance & co-ordination problem, tracing back to my first MS attack). The power of nutrtion in MS, autoimmune diseases & health & longevity is so underrated. ...As a student of nutrition I appreciate the huge amount of science behind your articles & Loren's books etc..."

"Paleo since March 31 2008, and have been in COMPLETE REMISSION..."
"...Hey there Wiley, I want to thank you so much for your work on The Paleo Diet. I have MS, and found out about Paleo/Best Bet this time last year. I've been (not perfectly, but mostly) paleo since March 31 2008, and have been IN COMPLETE REMISSION since I began. This is the best year I've had with MS in over 10 years..."

"The Gift of Remission"
"In 1980, my husband, Dr. Rich Land, was handed an amazing gift of information that helped him recover from MS. At the time, we didn’t know why the diet-restriction and supplement-based suggestions worked; we were simply grateful they facilitated the full remission. Years later, when I learned that our children might be genetically predisposed to the “cluster” effect of autoimmune diseases, I began to look for research that could explain my husband’s recovery and possibly lead to preventative measures. The quest initially located, as with most puzzle work, a few perimeter pieces. The bulk of puzzle pieces fell into place, however, when I was introduced to Dr. Cordain.
I had heard of Dr. Cordain’s research in the area of autoimmune disease and was invited to attend a consultation with him for someone newly diagnosed with MS. And, there it was! He had the cutting-edge research that validated the recovery strategy from all those years ago, and I had two 30-year-long recovery examples affirming his work! Upon completion of the puzzle by locating the other factors that contributed to my husband’s health crash, I felt the enormous responsibility to share the discoveries.
Because of Dr. Cordain’s validating research, we’ve been able to suggest to our children that they proactively modify their diets
as a preventative measure. And, with the recent publication of my book, The Gift of Remission (www.thegiftofremission.com), I can pass along the gift of hope and healing to those who need it immediately and raise awareness of those who might be setting themselves up for a devastating illness. Dr. Cordain allowed me to site his work in the Q & A section and contributed a beautifully written foreword for the book. I will always be incredibly grateful to him for his research and will look forward to funding autoimmune disease research from the book’s proceeds.

SPECIAL REPORTS on Eggs, Tomatoes, and A.I. Diseases
Also included with this package are two special reports of particular interest to all autoimmune patients:
Eggs, Allergies, and Autoimmune Diseases Chicken eggs are generally a nutritious food that would have been consumed by our Paleolithic ancestors, though only seasonally. Egg white is considered a complete and healthful protein because of its amino acid composition. However, egg white is a complex mixture of 40 proteins, about a third of which have toxic or lethal effects in bacteria and microorganisms, similar to lectins found in grains and legumes. This report explains the role that egg whites may play in autoimmune disease, and why M.S. and other autoimmune patients may want to avoid this food.
Of Tomatoes, Vaccines and Autoimmune Disease Tomatoes are almost universally considered to be healthy foods, though there are anecdotal reports that avoiding consumption of nightshade plants, including tomatoes, may improve symptoms in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases.
In this cutting-edge report you’ll learn about a component, tomato lectin, which has the capacity to interact with the immune system in a way that may promote autoimmune disease. You’ll also learn about another component of tomato, alpha tomatine, which can act as an adjuvant and boost the immune response to tomato lectin, and also increase gut permeability.
