Pedro Bastos
Pedro Bastos, member of the New York Academy of Sciences, the International
Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids and The Nutrition Society, is currently studying at the
Universitat de les Illes Balears (Spain) earning his Master's
degree in Human Nutrition and Food Quality and is affiliated as a research student with the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University (Sweden),
under the supervision of Dr. Staffan Lindeberg (the principle investigator of the famous Kitava Study and the senior researcher of 3 trials with
a Palaeolithic type Diet). He holds a BA in Business Administration
from ISG Business School, (Lisbon, Portugal), Post-Graduate Diplomas
in Biochemistry and Orthomolecular Medicine from Fernando Pessoa University
(Portugal) and in Exercise and Health from the School of Sport Science of
Rio Maior (Portugal).
He’s also a certified Personal Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Instructor,
having worked in the Fitness Industry from 2001 to 2004.
Since 2005, he’s a contributor to various health and fitness magazines, and lectures at conventions,
symposiums and conferences on topics related to Nutrition, Health and Performance in Portugal, Spain, Germany and Brazil.
He has authored and co-authored 6 scientific
papers and a scientific book chapter and his research interests are Evolutionary Medicine, Dairy Products and Human Health,
The Role of Dietary antigens in Autoimmunity, Nutrition and Chronic Inflammatory Diseases, The Role of Micronutrients in Human Health, Prevention
of Osteoporosis and Sarcopenia, Nutrition and Liver adenomas, The Role of Diet in Cancer Promotion/Prevention, Dietary Fatty acids and Human Health,
Ultraviolet Radiation and Vitamin D in Human Health, The Role of Sleep in Human Health, The Role of Diet in CHD, Health Consequences of Physical
Inactivity, and The Role of Nutrition in Sports injury prevention.
Additionally, he is working on a dietary intervention trial with Rheumatoid Arthritis
patients, collaborates with Professor Loren Cordain and Dr. Staffan Lindeberg (world scientific experts in the
evolutionary and anthropological basis for diet, health and well being in modern humans) in a number of research projects, serves as a nutritional
consultant for some nutrition companies and clinics in the US, Portugal, Spain and Brazil, and is a
member of the editorial board of a peer-reviewed Brazilian nutrition journal
(Nutrição, Saúde & Performance).
